JC3Bot Contest

Gemalto and Sun Microsystems jointly organize a programming contest at JavaOne 2008 conference .
This contest, sponsored jointly by Gemalto and Sun Microsystems, is a programming competition on the world's latest Java Virtual Machine - a smart card powered by Java Card 3 technology. The Java Card 3.0 specification has just been released and this is the first prototype card available anywhere in the world and exclusively at JavaOne. Not only do you get to program one of these cards, but you have the opportunity to get one and take it home with you.
Players have to select the strategy (in the form of a Java Servlet running on a Java Card 3 powered smart card) of a robot that is involved in a battle with other robots. The robot strategy is executed on a smart card while the battle is executed and displayed on a computer.
All fights will be scored and the top four will win attractive prizes. The final battle against the top two will be live on stage, in front of a live crowd, where the champion gets to go home with a great prize.

How to participate?

Download and install the SUN development kit. Go to contest web sites for instructions and support forum provided by the teams from Gemalto and Sun at java.sun.com/javacard/contest

  • Develop and test your robot strategy on your computer, or on one of the development stations provided at javaOne by Gemalto and Sun (in the java Playground).
  • Compete when you have set up your strategy. Go to the Contest booth (in the Java Playground) with your strategy. With the support of the contest organization team, participate to a robot battle. Your strategy will obtain a score, which will be registered in the participant’s scores list.
  • Be there at the final – Friday 9 May 8.30am-10.30am
  • Want more? – Buy a subsidized Gemalto smart card reader at the JavaOne Store. Don’t forget to collect your prototype Java Card 3.0 smart card at the Gemalto booth (booth number 1127).
