Ethernet over USB with ELS61 | Thales IoT Developer Community

Good evening,
I have a module with the ELS61 modem connected to my Windows PC through a USB cable. I can see the module with a terminal emulator for Windows and then dialogue with it through at commands.
Now I need to use the ELS61 as an external modem to set an Internet connection from my Windows PC. How can I do that and what drivers do I need?
Hello,
You could use the module as a ****m and setup a dialup connection with Windows or use ECM or MBIM. Please check in Device Manager if you have Gemalto ... Ethernet Adapter devices. If not you may need our drivers. Youl should find something here: https://iot-developer.thalesgroup.com/documentation/download-documentati...
Then check AT^SSRVSET="actSrvSet" oputput. If it's 1, change to 4 and reboot. In MBIM **** it should work automatically. You should see a device in Windows and be able to activate a connection.
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Hello Bartłomiej, I thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions but I still cannot manage to establish the Internet connection.
I will tell you what happens.
In Windows device manager I can see under Network Adapters:
-Gemalto M2M ELS6 LTE USB MB Wireless Ethernet Adapter #5
-Gemalto M2M ELS6 LTE USB MB Wireless Ethernet Adapter (2nd context) #5
In Windows Network Connections instead I can see both of the adapter above but it says Network cable unplugged. The driver version is 4.19.0.0 of 11/09/2013 signed Gemalto M2M GmbH.
When I try to update drivers taken from the link you sent me Windows states "the best drivers are already installed".
Do you think everything is correct?
Are the drivers the right ones?
How can I enable a network connection over th Gemalto adapters?
Thank you for your attention.
PS: Is it possible to enclose files or images in this forum (it would be easy to pass information)
GF
Hi,
Yes, you can enclose images. Just click ont he image icon in the editor and then "Browse Server". You need to upload the picture to your storage and then you can add it to the post.
I checked on my PC. The connection is working automatically in MBIM ****. But I have the Microsoft driver instead of Gemalto one. I see the device as ELSx in Device Manager. Please try to remove Gemalto diver completely and use the Microsoft one.
BR,
Bartłomiej
Good eve Bartłomiej,
I remove Gemalto drivers from my PC and set AT^SSRVSET="actSrvSet",4 and then I rebooted the ELS61 following your instructions. However, no automatic connection starts in MBIM ****. You can see the state of my Dev Manager after having done "scan for HW changes" here:
As you see there are no ELSx devices there. However, the ELS61 is unknown to Windows, as you can see here:
and here:
The ****m is active and on, responding to at commands, registered to the network with a SIM card inside it and attached to packet domain, as you can see from the following snapshot (green strings are commands TO the ****m and yellow ones responses FROM the ****m)
Finally, in order to confirm all this, in Windows Network Connections tab I cannot see any connection with the ELS61:
At this point, I really do not know what to do to get my internet connection through the ELS61.
Does it really work just with Windows drivers or do I have to install Gemalto specific drivers? In this case where do I find the right ones and which is the procedure to install them? The drivers for my ELS61-E I saw in the link you sent me last 25th March seem to be suited at most to Windows 7 so not suitable for my Windows 10.
An advice from you would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for your attention.

Hello,
Please also remove this MBIM Selective Suspend Enabler driver. Then it should work.
