PLS8 data connection | Thales IoT Developer Community

Hi
I'm looking into upgrading from EGS3 to PLS8. My requirement is to use SMS & data connections. I appreciate that PLS8 doesn't have a TCP/IP stack and that the data transmission will have to be handled quite differently.
I've been looking through the PLS8-E AT command document (v2.011a), it appears to point me towards using the multiplexer for data connections (AT+CMUX} and indicates the existence of a "Multiplexer User's Guide". Where can I get this document? I've not been able to find it on the Gemalto Extranet.
Thanks
Steve
Hello,
The documentation and software you can generally get from your local Gemalto hardware supplier.
But maybe you don't need the multiplexer. You can get application, modem and NMEA ports without that also.

Thanks for your reply.
Do you know if there is any plan to add a TCP/IP stack to the PLS8?

Steve
As far as I know it's not currently planned. This module is intended for high speed communication and there are other modules that have this implemented like PVS or PXS.

I don't understand why high speed comms and TCP/IP are mutually exclusive. I appreciate that using the AT^SIS* commands to transmit data to and from the modem would be slow, but surely the modem interface can be used for data comms and this can be passed through any existing TCP/IP stack?
Presumably, if someone wanted to use the PLS8 for HTTP comms, they would have to implement their own TCP/IP stack?
Thanks
Steve
Hello,
The difference is that PLS8 does not have AT commands to establish simple socket, http, smtp, ftp connections but it is possible to use it as a modem to establish a transparent and fast connection to the internet and use it for any kind of traffic.
Using IP services available via AT commands is quite simple but slower then using the module as a modem which additionally gives more possibilities than using TCP/IP via AT commands.

*****,
i am using pls8-x module and i am trying to use network at commands from pls8-x_atc_v02502.pdf. I am not able to connect the chipset to the network using a socket connection. Is it true that the TCP/IP stack has not been implemented on the PLS8-X as well just like the PLS8-E?
Neel.
Hello,
PLS8-X modules are new release of PLS8 and should have the internet services over AT implemented.
Please send more details: ATI1 reply and the log from AT interface.

Bartłomiej
