PLS8 Documentation mismatch? | Thales IoT Developer Community

Hi,
We are currently designing a board which must support both the PHS8 and PLS8 modules. These devices are from our information supposed to be pin and feature-compatible (with the exception of LTE of course). As expected, the information provided in the overview for the PLS8 states that PCM, UART, I2S and GPS are features as with the PHS8.

However, this does not seem to be the case when reading the technical documentation from the knowledge base, as found here:
https://iot-developer.thalesgroup.com/documentation/pls8-e-technical-documentation
where none of the listed features are documented (the pads are listed as rfu).
Are we looking at the wrong documentation or is there an inconsistency in your documentation?
Regards,
Emil, LIAB ApS
Hello,
The document in the knowledge base is for PLS8 release 1 which does not have these features.
The data sheet describes the new release 2.1 which has not yet been released and therefore the hardware interface description document is not yet available.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hello,
Does it mean that PLS8 release 1 does NOT have GPS?
I already have a PLS8 module. How can I know the release? Is it possible to tell from the codes written on it?
The difference between release 1 and 2.1, is it hardware or "only" firmware? If it is firmware, is it possible to upgrade a release 1 module so that it supports GPS?
Many thanks!
Hello Dag,
It is not possible to update rel1 to rel2. There are HW differences between them. It is also not possible to enable GPS on rel1. More than that rel1 is not supported by the Gemalto as it is treated only like a preliminary release, only for evaluation purposes. For commercial use it is higly recommended to use release 2.
Best regards,
Michał
Thank you so much, Michał.
