PLS8-E Evaluation Module | Thales IoT Developer Community

Hi there,
we are currently working on a design with the PLS8-E Evaluation modul.
Unfortunately the GSM modem reboots after we are entering the PIN via the AT command.
Any ideas are very welcome!
Thanks

Hello,
Maybe it's the hardware failure. Is it mounted on any developer board or your hardware? Maybe the power supply is not sufficient. After entering the PIN the module starts the network registration procedure and consumes more power than before entering the PIN probably. Do you have more module to compare? Have you tried with other SIM provider? What's the ATI1 reply?
Regards,
Bartłomiej
Dear Bartlomiej,
here is the ATI1 replay.
Cinterion
PLS8-E
REVISION 02.011
A-REVISION 01.010.13
We are running the EVAL-Modem on our existing GSM-Server connected trough RS-232. The Modem is powered by an laboratory power supply 0-40V/0.01-3A. We alredy tried various SIM cards with no luck.
After we have entered the PIN via the AT command the supply voltage of the SIM card (1.8V or 3V) disappearsfor short period of time and then the modem is rebooting.
We dont have a second module to compare at the moment
Thanks in advance

Hello,
This is not the normal behavior and it still looks for me as some hardware problem. Maybe the power supply has the current limit turned down or other hardware including the module is malfunctioning. So it would be good to try with another module or place the module on the developer board for reference.
You could connect the oscilloscope to BATT+ lines to see if there's no voltage drops.

Bartłomiej
Dear Bartłomiej - thanks for you support.
If would like to send the moden to you - how can I get a RMA number ?
I´ve already spoke to my local vendor but I am still waiting for a RMA number or similar.
Thanks in advance

Hello,
If you have already started the RMA procedure via your local vendor please contact him - the RMA number should be generated within 3 working days.
You can also contact Gemalto WM QM Service at Service-wm@Gemalto.com

Dear Bartłomiej,
thanks for the info!
I have another question. Where can I find the current firmware for the Cinterion EHS6T-LAN terminal ? Which we are currently also evaluating.
Thanks in advance
Thomas, Kofax Austria
Hello,
The latest official firmware for EHS6 module is ARN0000050. Your can ask your supplier to provide it to you.
Best regards,
Bartłomiej
Hi.
We just received a new one. Same problem.
We can send AT commands using the RS323 interface and can do a communication with the SIM Card. The moment we enter the PIN code the modem resets itself after a few seconds.
We have also connected a oscilloscope, no voltage drop.
Hello,
So you have received the new PLS8 module and the problem is the same. If you have tried out SIM cards from different operators and the problem still exists regardless of the operator I suppose there must be something wrong with the hardware. As I understand you are using some proprietary hardware with the module. Do you have DSB75 or some other developer board with an appropriate adapter to test? That could confirm or exclude the hardware problem. Maybe the SIM interface does not meat the requirements from the hardware description.

Bartłomiej
Hello.
At the moment we dont have a dev-board like the DSB75.
We are using the SIM-Card holder of the eval-board. To our hardware only the following pins for the RS232 connection are connected:
RXD0
CTS0
DSR0
DCD0
RING0
TXD0
RTS0
DTR0
Power for the modem is comming from a lab-powersupply and from a second one the power for our hardware. Is it possible, that we must configure something on the modem before sending the AT+CPIN command?
Regards,
Thomas
